Lawyer Miguna Miguna has said that cremation is not part of the African culture.
In a series of tweets, Miguna said that Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed were not cremated. He said that he finds it weird for people to embrace cremation in the modern world.
He was speaking in reference to the standoff in the family of Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth. The family has differed since the deceased was cremated at the Kariokor cemetery.
“Jesus Christ and Mohamed were buried; not cremated. Americans, French, and other Europeans spend billions of dollars to retrieve, return and bury their fallen soldiers in huge cemeteries. There is no African culture that cremates. We must honour our African culture. Period,” he tweeted.
He also said that the deceased deserved better treatment after his death. Miguna said that the lawmaker would have been given a befitting burial and not cremation.
“When Ken Okoth passed, @RailaOdingadeclared that his body would be "dealt with like Ken Matiba's." Ken Okoth was a Luo. Matiba was a Kikuyu. Matiba was given a hero's send-off while Ken Okoth was cremated secretly at 3am attended by less than 10 people. Ken deserves much better," he said in another tweeted.
