Trouble is looming yet again in Jubilee administration following announcement by Secretary General Raphael Tuju that the party will field a candidate in Kibra by-election.
Hours after the announcement, a list of five candidates interested in the Jubilee ticket surfaced online, with former Intermilan midfielder McDonald Mariga being one of them.
But in a quick rejoinder, Tuju dismissed the list as fake, arguing that the party Election Board is yet to sit and shortlist anyone for the ticket.
"This letter that is making rounds within social media outlets is FAKE. Please note that any communication regarding the Kibra Constituency by-election will be done through the official Party organ," the party said.
However, despite Tuju's denial, Deputy President William Ruto's ally Dennis Itumbi, stood with the list, insisting that it originated from the party.
Mr Itumbi, who is also Secretary to Digital Innovation in State House, also said that the election board will sit on Sunday and pick a candidate for the polls.
"For the record, contrary to the rumour being circulated by some people somewhere online, Macdonald Mariga is a Jubilee Party Member.Forwarded from Jubilee:"Your Jubilee Party Reference number is JP13941721" he wrote.
"Jubilee National Elections Board settled on a list of 5 names today. They then sent letter to @IEBCKenya. Jubilee will conduct interviews to decide Kibra flagbearer on Sunday," added Itumbi.
The coded language from Itumbi could be an indication that Dr Ruto is supporting the former Kenyan international for the poll. The two had previously met in Karen.
Dr Ruto could have picked Mariga as a compromise candidate to take on ODM in the poll which is expected to be competitive. He could use the more politically neutral Mariga to test Mr Raila Odinga in his own backyard.
ODM is also expected to pick a candidate on Saturday for the race following the death of Ken Okoth, who served the constituency for two terms.
