Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has questioned the manner in which the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is being marketed to the country.
Founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce, both leaders and their allies have been drumming up support for the BBI.
But Kositany, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto who remains lukewarm on backing the same now says that it could fail, but not because of its proposals.
Speaking on Tuesday, the lawmaker took issue with how the idea is being sold, including Raila's threats that it will sweep critics away, terming it the reasons why it might be rejected.
Speaking in Kibra while launching ODM candidates ahead of the primaries, Raila likened the BBI to a tsunami which will sweep all it's critics to the ocean, which Kositsny is against.
"As we push this BBI story we need to be very careful. You could be having a very good product but the person marketing the product is a poor marketer. If you are building bridges then build bridges for all, there should not be an issue of a tsunami coming," the MP said in a video shared by Citizen TV on Twitter. (from minute 1:20)
He made the remarks on Citizen TV on Tuesday morning where he also cast doubts on claims by the BBI supporters that it seeks to enhance inclusivity, observing that there is no way all Kenyans can be satisfied at the same moment.
Kositany also stressed on the need for politicians to accept that there will always be a loser and a winner in each poll, which will make it easier for Kenyans to accept their fate after polls.
"When we say that we want to change the constitution to bring inclusivity, really? Is that the real reason? Inclusivity starts in the mind. We can never have a constitution that will satisfy all the tribes," he noted.
According to Kositany, Kenyans don't need changes to make them feel in government, but a government that will serve them all regardless of whether they voted for it or not.
