Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has admitted that Deputy President William Ruto commands the support of the majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Mount Kenya region.
He made the admission on Sunday during the 'Punchline' programme hosted by renowned television journalist Anne Kiguta.
"Let me say this to this interesting question. It is true the bulk of the members of parliament from the Mount Kenya region are supporting the deputy president," said Kuria.
The outspoken Jubilee party lawmaker expressed his sadness at what he described as the divisions among members of parliament from Central Kenya.
MPs from the region are sharply divided on the question of DP Ruto's presidential aspirations in 2022, leading to the factionalism within the governing Jubilee party.
The so-called Kieleweke group has expressed its strong opposition to Ruto with the Tangatanga group drumming up support for the DP's presidential aspirations.
These divisions have led to speculation that President Uhuru Kenyatta's grip on central Kenya is loosening as the clock winds down on his second and final term as president.
A few weeks ago the Head of State warned Ruto allies of moving around the country engaging in politics, saying that he would deal with them when the right time comes.
