Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said a state of the art newborn unit will be opened at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital very soon.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Joho said the facility will have among others; ultra-modern baby incubators.
''The Coast General Teaching and referral Hospital will soon open a state of the art newborn unit comprising of eight bed Neonatal High Dependency Unit (HDU)and 30-bed nursery,'' said Joho.
Joho further noted that the Neonatal HDU will include other features like the Neonatal Monitoring devices, resuscitates and CPAP machines among many other features.
''The county government of Mombasa has also sponsored one of its pediatricians Dr Nayrat Mohammed to sub-specialize in Neonatology in South Africa. A special room has also been created to incorporate kangaroo mother care which is highly recommended for preterm babies,'' Joho said.
This is set to revolutionise the medical system in the county, and reduce cases of death during child birth, and complications after delivery.
This project is jointly sponsored by Mombasa County and the Safaricom Foundation.
