For the last 13 months, Dr Matiang'i has been keeping politicians guessing over his next destination but he has often hinted joining politics.

Recently, ODM leader Raila Odinga asked Gusii politicians to go slow on Matiang'i's guest, arguing that it's not the right time to push for such moves.

"Matiang'i is like my son. I know what you want but let's first allow him to work. He sits in the cabinet and can help the country grow," he said.

A host of politicians had asked Mr Odinga to consider backing Dr Fred Matiang'i for presidency. Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has been leading such calls.

But an MP who spoke in confidence says Matiang'i is waiting for the BBI team to table the report before making a decision on next move.

"He's waiting for BBI recommendations before making any informed decision. He can't say he wants to be this or that before he knows the future as enshrined in BBI," he said.

The BBI taskforce has finalised the document and it will be submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga soon for public scrutiny.

There have been calls from Gusii region to have Dr Fred Matiang'i contesting for presidency. He has been however, calling for unity within the community.
