Political analyst Herman Manyora has rubbished the essence of drama displayed by the police while arresting Governor Mike Sonko.
According to Manyora, the dramatic arrest was intended to hoodwink Kenyans into believing that graft was seriously being fought and for them to forget about the desired outcome of the same.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday morning, Manyora who is also a University of Nairobi lecturer began by recalling how he had been on the forefront condemning the useless dramatic arrest of high profile individuals implicated in graft.
"When Sonko was arrested in Voi, I said we have had enough of drama. I think we must bring this to a stop," said the professor.
He said he had been urging the law enforcement authorities to stop using drama and resort to actions to prove their seriousness in fighting graft because Kenyans were tired with the same.
“It appears to me that the powers that be in this country want to substitute action for drama; that when they show us some little drama while arresting Sonko then we will forget tomorrow. It is like they feed our eyes with optics ” said Prof. Manyora.
Further, he opined that individuals accused of engaging in the graft should be arrested without commotion prosecuted and convicted or acquitted following a due process.
"Theft in this country is so crude, so rogue. You don't even need drama in arrest. You need to call somebody and tell them Sonko we need you at EACC," he added.
"We need to move to the level of action. When you play with people, a time comes when you pay for it also," he concluded.
On Friday 6th December, governor Sonko was dramatically arrested in Voi after DPP issued a warrant of arrest against him over the loss of Sh357.8 million in Nairobi.
He was later prosecuted in court, released on a cash bail of Sh15 million and barred from office pending the hearing of his case.
