NASA Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya on Tuesday clashed with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission over Punguza Mizigo initiative.
Last week, Thirdway Alliance party through Dr Ekuru Aukot managed to collect 1 million signatures that pages way for an attempt to subject Kenyans to a referendum.
Already, Aukot's team has submitted the Bill to counties where it's being scrutinised for the next course of action. County Assemblies will determine the future of the bill.
But Magaya, a close ally of Raila Odinga, said the procedure used by IEBC to verify Aukot's signatures was suspect, asking the commission to consider publishing the signatures.
"Please reproduce here the statement you issued on Okoa Kenya initiative. Let’s compare the uniformity of procedure deployed. You are a commission that has commitment to predictable procedure and standards. You are masters of amorphous standards depending on circumstances," he stated.
But in response, IEBC said: "@amugira kindly note that @IEBCKenya does not verify signatures but rather confirms that a popular initiative is supported by atleast 1Million registered voters as per Article 257 (4) of The Constitution of Kenya, 2010."
Mr Magaya, a board member with Kenya Films and Classification Board believes that IEBC rejected Cord's Okoa Kenya initiative in 2016 due to political reasons.
"Just reproduce the formula you deployed in signature verification right here .Wacha kizungu mingi," he told off the commission.
This comes after Elections Observer Group asked IEBC to consider publishing the signatures obtained by Dr Aukot and his team for public scrutiny.
“The observation we made were only from the few forms that we were allowed to access. It is important to point out that IEBC denied us an opportunity to scrutinise all the forms,” Mr Musau Mulle said.
