Punguza Mizigo Bill mastermind Dr Ekuru Aukot has hinted plans to reintroduce another version of the proposals in his bid to amend the constitution.
Dr Aukot and his Thirdway Alliance party failed to convince county assemblies to pass the Bill, with 45 assemblies rejecting his proposals.
For the bill to have seen some light, at least 24 counties must have supported it. Only Turkana and Uasin Gishu Counties managed to pass it.
On Wednesday, Aukot hinted plans to better the bill and go back to the people for the second phase of signature collection across the country.
He accused a section politicians of working in bad faith at the expense of Kenyans, adding that hope is after all not lost since he can still get back to the people.
“Political jealousy is real in this country. Some people think that they own the public space. If it is not them that make a proposition, then anything won’t fly,” said Aukot.
He noted that corruption is far from over, going by the manner in which the MCAs were bullied into turning against the Punguza Mizigo Bill.
“We cannot trust this regime that uses corruption to fight good ideas meant to end corruption which is an operating system in our political culture,” he said.
Even as Aukot struggles to push for changes, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are also expected to receive BBI report which is widely expected to propose a referendum.
