Speaking on Sunday morning during a phone call to Nation, the legislator said he opted to hide upon seeing a convoy of police vehicles nearing his home on the very day.

“I heard sounds of vehicles approaching my home and when I peeped through the window, I noticed several police officers surrounding my compound. I knew they were after me because of the meeting we had organised in Mumias. I escaped through the back door and hid in a thicket behind my home,” the Mumias East lawmaker noted during the call.

He noted that the officers searched for persons in his household and left when they were satisfied there was one in the house.

He said he called one of his friends who took him to Kisumu where he spent the night after the officers left.

“That is when I called a friend who took me to Kisumu where I spent the rest of the night before I flew to Nairobi the following morning,” the National Assembly Chief Whip noted.

“I want to assure everybody that I am safe from where I am and will be travelling back to Mumias any day from Monday,” he added.

His supporters thought he had been detained by police after he went missing on Saturday following threats by COTU sec-general Francis Atwoli that the leaders who were planning meeting at Mumias will be arrested.

“Luhya people will not allow a few people to spoil such a historic meeting. Their wives will be the first ones to arrest them and place them on house arrest. Those without wives will have a rough day.”Atwoli had earlier stated.
