Dawood who spoke on Monday said that leaders should understand they sought the elective posts to serve people not fill their pockets.

He lamented that the country is burdened by the huge wage bill and went ahead to note that he was ready to show the way.

According to the MP, the president, his deputy, governors Mp's and other elected leaders don't deserve payment but only allowances that will allow them to work well.

"We spend very few hours in parliament and others even make technical appearances. All elected leaders should be servants of the people and not seek to enrich themselves," said Dawood as quoted by Daily Nation.

The legislator made history by donating his whole salary to the poor during his reign as a councillor at the defunct Meru Municipal Council.

Dawood further hailed DCI George Kinoti and DPP Noordin Hajji for their dedicated fight against corruption.

He warned those tribalising the war against corruption citing that a few corrupt individuals have resorted to claiming their community is being targeted.

"Those attacking Kinoti should know that he has his own people who support his work. Thieves should be prosecuted," noted the MP.
