Kibera is the biggest slum in the country. It is also the most congested informal settlement.
Due to its high population, there are high chances of insecurity. Residents have always complained about the increased insecurity in this area for a long time.
Surprisingly, youths of as low as 12 years have been caught among the various gangs terrorizing residents in this area. They target different groups of people to steal from. Here are their three main targets:
1. ForeignersPeople who are visiting Kibera for the first time have always been targeted with thugs. This is so because they don’t know different routes of the slum. When they ask for directions in case they are lost, they in some cases get misdirected. They are then followed and robbed in areas no one will be near to save them.
2. Shop ownersShop owners in Kibera have for sometimes been targets for thugs. They are monitored when they go for shopping for their shops. Thugs know they will be having good money thus becoming an easy bet for money.
3. Boda boda operatorsMotorcycle owner in Kibera who work up to late in the night have been targeted by thugs. Various cases of thugs coming as clients have been reported in this area. They rob you when you drive them far from other people or when no one will come for your help.
