A bodaboda operator died on Tuesday following an accident in Bokoma village, Mwata in Riana Ward, Kisii County.
Area chief Edward Moenda confirmed the accident saying the deceased who has been identified as Johannes Ombui was riding at high speed and under the influence of alcohol.
"The deceased was moving at a high speed headed to Suneka from Riana when he lost control and veered off the newly tarmacked road before he hit a ditch. He died on the spot," Moenda said as reported by Egesa FM.
The administrator noted that the deceased had been warned against riding his bike under the influence of alcohol on several occasions but failed to heed the warning.
He challenged bodaboda riders plying the Nyamatutu-Riana-Suneka route to adhere to traffic rules in a bid to curb road accidents in the area.
"Some accidents can be avoided by bodaboda riders adhering to the set road rules. Speeding and riding under the influence of alcohol will lead to loss of lives for several young people who have ventured into the bodaboda business," said the chief.
According to the chief, bodaboda riders are making bad use of the tarmac road by speeding.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Nyangena Hospital morgue.
