Huruma ward MCA Peter Chomba now wants the valuation roll process stopped and started afresh claiming that it was done wrongly.
He said most properties across the county have not been captured in the valuation roll due to lack of public participation.
“Valuation roll should be a negotiated document. If somebody was paying yearly Sh3000 for a plot, you should sit with those individuals to know how much money they are ready to increase if it’s another Sh 1000 or Sh500 instead of coming up with a figure they cannot pay,” said Chomba.
He spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday noting that information should be collected from residents in readiness for debate by the county assembly.
“At the same time what was done has not captured most of the people in Uasin Gishu County. In the areas such as Huruma Ward, most of the properties have been left out of the valuation roll,” added the Huruma MCA.
He, however, condemned the executive for refusing to implement the resolution by the county assembly to stop the whole process until public participation and mapping is done properly.
Chomba further said that no one is against valuation but should be done fairly and the amount increased should be reasonable.
