Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has appealed to the judiciary to expedite hearing of graft cases.
The governor in his new year message proposed for suspects in corruption cases to charged and prosecuted within six months, failure to which the charges against them should be dismissed.
Governor Mutua pointed out that taking speedy action against suspects in graft cases will act as a lesson and also show the citizens that the government is serious about the war against corruption.
According to Mutua, when cases take long in court, the citizens lose confidence with the government's efforts in fighting corruption.
The Machakos governor further made an appeal to the chief justice to put systems in place that would ensure graft cases are processed faster this year.
"I request that the courts should have a system that dictates for suspects whoa retaken to court, that their cases should be processed and completed within six months, and if it has not been closed within that period, it should be thrown out so that the suspect can go back to work.(mimi naomba yak wamba mahakam iwe na mpangilio maalum ya kusema kwamba mtu anapopelekwa kortini mara ya kwanza, baada ya miezi sita hiyo kesi iwe imemalizika, ikiwa haijamalizika basi ianguke mtu arudi kazi)," Mutua said..
Mutua's sentiments come at a time that thee governors have been charged with corruption and consequently barred from accessing the office.
