Deputy President William Ruto has renewed his war of words with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, the DP alleged that the opposition leader has plans to amend the Bible.
The DP made the comments after Mr Odinga opposed his church contributions. Odinga has constantly questioned the source of money Ruto contributes to churches across the country.
“We hear the opposition leader wants to amend the Holy Bible and ban any contribution in the church. We want to tell him that we know our God and we have no apology to make,” a defiant Ruto said as reported by K24.
Previously, Dr Ruto warned MPs against changing the constitution to limit church donations. His warning came after National Assembly Leader of Minority John Mbadi proposed to cap church donations at Sh100,000. This forced Ruto to quote the book of Deuteronomy 8:11.
"You will face the wrath of God if you are not careful as lawmakers. Don't be distracted by those agitating to change the Bible through Parliament," Ruto said as quoted by Daily Nation.
Kirinyaga county governor, Anne Waiguru Kamotho and her deputy Peter Ndambiri did not accompany DP Ruto on his tour of the county. However, some members of Kirinyaga County Assembly were present.
