President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday called Eliud Kipchoge ahead of his INEOS 1:59 Challenge on Saturday.
Speaking at Mary's School, Nairobi where he was the Chief Guest for the institution's 80th-anniversary celebration, Uhuru wished Kipchoge success as he prepares to make history.
''I am feeling confident, you are in our prayers my friend I just wanted to pass that message onto you. That we just pray for you that you will be successful, but for us it is not the success but the effort that you put in and the effort for humanity my brother."
"May God bless you and continue protecting you and give you all the strengthen and courage you need tomorrow and remember you have 46 million of us behind you,'' said the head of state.
Kipchoge is in Vienna, Austria where he will be competing against time in the much-awaited INEOS 1:59 Challenge.
The race which will kick off at 9:19 am East African Time has attracted a lot of attention from all over the world.
Kipchoge will be the first man attempting to run a 42km distance in less than two hours.
The World Marathon champion will also be attempting to beat his own record of 2:02:39.
Many Kenyans have expressed hope that he will triumph.
