Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has weighed in on reports of water contamination caused by an oil leak.
Speaking to members of the press on Sunday, Mr Achoki confirmed the contamination, noting that a thorough investigation into the matter was ongoing.
A report will be issued to the public on the outcome of the investigations, which are being conducted by a multi-agency team, once they are complete.
"We have a team from Nema, a team of officers from the Kenya Pipeline, and we also have government chemists so that investigation is still ongoing and we will soon give a report on the outcome of that investigation," said the county commissioner.
Media Max-owned K24 Television reported that the report is expected to be made public today, Monday.
The report is expected to answer fundamental questions including the exact point the contamination occurred and the oil product that has contaminated the water sources.
Mr Achoki called on residents to be patient as the issue would be resolved as quickly as possible so that they can have clean water.
Residents have decried suffering from skin irritation brought about by taking a bath using the water and have called on the authorities to help resolve the contamination issue as quickly as possible.
