In an interview with K24 on Thursday, Khalwale said that time has come for the CS to quit from his position for what he termed as sleeping on the job.

The politician said that Macharia has proven beyond doubt that he is not the right man for the job after the rescue operation took hours.

He wondered why the government is to recover the bodies and the vehicle that sunk in the Indian Ocean yet the CS wants to remain in office.

He noted that it is clear that Macharia has proven that he is incompetent and time has come for him to pave way for a better person to assume office in the same capacity.

Khalwale also said that it is painful following the loss of the lives in the tragedy.

“It is very painful and I am sorry Macharia on this one you should resign before lunchtime today, "he said.

Macharia has appointed his Principal Secretary Esther Koimet to lead efforts to retrieve bodies and vehicle. The two bodies are reportedly more than 60 metres underwater.

Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna told journalists at the ocean in Mombasa that the divers are facing a myriad of the challenges in their bid to retrieve the bodies from the water.
