Gor Mahia continued their CAF Champions league qualification hunt, by hammering Aigle Noir of Burundi 5-1 in the return leg to progress to the next round.
A first half own goal from Aigle defender and a brace from Nicholas Kipkirui saw Kogalo take the lead before the break.
Dickson Ambundo and Boniface Omondi set the tone in the second half, with each scoring a goal before Aigile Noir bagged a late consolation.
Here are some Kogalo players who impressed during their 5-1 rout;
David Mapigano 9/10
The new signing failed to keep a clean sheet as he was beaten late on in the game, but made some fine saves, notably in the 41st minute to stop a fierce shot.
In order for Kogalo to compete at the biggest stage, stability at the back is paramount and there is no doubt the Tanzania shot stopper will be key.
Nicolas Kipkirui 10/10
The striker was Kogalo’s predominant threat to the Aigle Noir goal in the first half. His positional awareness and eye for goal was reflected in the performance as he bagged two goals.
Kipkirui offers attacking threat going forward that’s been missing since Michael Olunga left in 2016.
Dickson Ambundo 10/10
The new signing was the driving force, 1 goal and 2 assists to start his campaign with the Kenyan outfit.
Ambundo’s connection with Kipkirui will be something the Kogalo coaching staff will look to as an attacking duo.
