Two Mt Kenya MPs allied to the Kieleweke faction have assured Kenyans of President Uhuru Kenyatta's commitment towards the success of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The BBI succeeded Uhuru's March 2018 truce with former Premier Raila Odinga, which they formed to end the history of post election wrangles in the country.
Speaking on Thursday, Nyeri MP Ngunjiri Wambugu and Nduati Ngugi (Gatanga) predicted futility in the attempts by allies of Deputy President William Ruto to pull Uhuru off.
They said that Uhuru would rather ditch his deputy in favour of the BBI, further criticizing the DP for allegedly opposing the initiative, which they said amounts to undermining Uhuru.
Ngunjiri took issue with Ruto's August 10 tweet, where he assured Kenyans that Jubilee will remain committed to delivering as per its manifesto, despite the increasing calls for a referendum.
"The Jubilee administration will not be distracted from delivering on our manifesto and HE’s Big Four plan by those engaged in the raging debate on Punguza Mizigo, BBI or 2022. They should be objective, truthful, and conduct an honest conversation that is in the best interest of all of us," the DP had tweeted.
But speaking to the Nation on Thursday, Ngunjiri insisted that the DP is in no position to speak on behalf of the party.
He added that the fact that Uhuru was the co-founder of the BBI disqualifies the DP from making any comments about the same and its intentions.
