Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Maanza said that he has represented the county boss in court before, adding that he was not impressed with the manner in which he was arrested. He argued that the DPP should have directed Sonko to present himself before him.

"I am an interested party in the Sonko case. I have been his lawyer for a while now. I feel a person in the status of a governor should have been asked to present himself,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that county bosses who have been barred from accessing their offices are still in power. He argued that a governor only looses his or her powers after the seat has been declared vacant.

“Governors who have been taken to court have been barred from their offices for the sole reason that they could interfere with witnesses. These governor’s seats are not vacant,” he added.

Sonko was arrested aboard SGR on his way to Voi. He is set to appear in court over the embezzlement of Sh358  million set aside for the county government operations.
