Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office have arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of Thatha Parish, Machakos Priest, Fr Michael Maingi Kyengo.
In a tweet on Wednesday evening, the DCI noted that the suspect, Michael Muthini Mutunga is in police custody.
''The DCI Detectives through Forensic investigations were able to locate the body along Mashamba River in Makima location, Mbeere South. One suspect; 25-year-old Michael Muthini Mutunga who is suspected to have kidnapped the Priest, KILLED & then buried his body at the said place, is in lawful custody & helping Detectives in further investigations,'' wrote the DCI.
The priest had been reported missing at Tala Police Station on 8 October 2019.
According to preliminary reports, the priest was killed by strangling, then buried along a seasonal river in Embu.
Detectives used Forensic investigations to locate where he was buried. His body was exhumed.
Investigations are ongoing and the suspect, Mutunga is being held to help the police carry out their investigations.
Witnesses have revealed that on that fateful day, the priest, who was on leave had gone at their rural home in Tala Kangundo to greet his parents.
On his way to Masinga resort, he was kidnapped at around 9 PM by unknown people.
