Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga is walking a tightrope after a resident from his backyard sued him over the recent reshuffle in the cabinet. The resident claims that the reshuffle was undertaken against the rules and regulations of governance.
The man, George Ochieng has filed a case against Rasanga and three other parties over the changes in the cabinet. He wants the action revoked with immediate effect.
The other parties in the suit are the county government, Speaker George Okode and the County Assembly.
Rasanga, who reshuffled cabinet in July, is faulted for allegedly violating the laws of leadership after he made the move.
In his petition filed at the Siaya High Court, the complainant wants the matter addressed with urgency to pave for what he terms as accountability and good governance.
Through his lawyer William Ochuka, the man said that the governor went against the wishes of the people who elected him into office after the new development.
“The Governor – who is the first respondent in this case – appointed persons to serve as members of the County Executive Committee without being vetted by the County Assembly’s committee on appointments and in total disregard of the Kisumu High Court petition of 2017 which established that the persons in question were not fit for the dockets where they had been appointed,” the petition reads in part, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The man also said that some of the members are yet to be approved by the County Assembly.
The petitioner has since listed CECs Bernard Mboha (Entrepreneurship), Eng. Adrian Ouma (Lands). Elizabeth Odhiambo (Agriculture), Dorothy Owino (Health). Jaoko Oburu Odinga (Roads), George Misore (Water), Dismas Omondi Wakla (Governance and administration) and Charles Oduor Ogada (Tourism and Sports) as respondents in the case.
