Three people were on Friday night arrested for allegedly conning a man Sh410,000 pretending to be in a position to help him get recruited as a Kenya Defence Forces officer.
The three, Jackeline Magaya, Alex Kingwa and Paul Sirere were nabbed in Nairobi by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
According to a tweet by DCI the trio lured the victim to a meeting at Accra where he parted with the cash and got a calling letter.
"Three suspects of Obtaining money by false pretence were yesterday arrested within Nairobi town after they defrauded a man sh. 410,000 while pretending to be in a position to help him get recruited as a KDF officer," read the post.
However, he suspected the letter could be fake and sought help from DCI detectives who confirmed indeed the letter was fake.
"However on showing the letter to a friend he had become suspicious and sought clarification from DCIdetctives from DCI central Nairobiland military police who found the calling letter to be fake, " read the post in part.
After an ambush by the detectives, the three suspects were arrested and three more fake calling letters were confiscated.
The suspects have been placed in custody awaiting arraignment in court to answer to charges of Obtaining money in false pretence.
