The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered a piece of land belonging to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Oburu Oginga.
According to the anti-graft watchdog, the plot in Kisumu's Railways area under registration Kisumu Municipality Block 7/509 was illegally acquired from the Kenya Railways Corporation.
The EACC says that the former Bondo lawmaker has been holding the land illegally after the National Land Commission canceled its title deed in November 26, 2010.
In a statement on Friday evening, EACC said that Oburu, who acquired the land from one Sammy Mwaita, was holding it on lease basis, and is no longer its custodian, having been confiscated.
"A declaration that the issuance of a lease by the second defendant (Sammy Mwaita) to the 1st defendant (Dr Oburu Odinga) over Kisumu Municipality Block 7/509 was null and void ab initio and ineffectual to coffer any right, interest or title upon the first defendant in the first instance," it said, according to Capital News.
The action comes at a time when the EACC has been at work to enforce an order from President Uhuru Kenyatta to recover pieces of Kenya Railways land grabbed by private entities.
The commission also recovered another plot registered under block 7/455 in the same area, adding that it is is as well pursuing more such cases.
