The county bosses now want to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta to address the matter with immediate effect.

Led by CoG chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya, the governors want to talk about the potential crisis in Nairobi after Sonko's arrest.

They said the county could be thrown into a crisis because it lacks a Deputy Governor.

“Following the arrest and detention of H.E. Mike Mbuvi Sonko the Council of Governors is monitoring and consulting widely on the unfolding situation,” said a statement from the CoG read in part as quoted by Capital FM.

It added: “We are however aware of the uniqueness of the County Government and therefore we shall reach out to H.E. The President to convene an emergency Summit to address the evolving situation.”

Sonko was arrested on Friday on his way to Voi following a directive from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji.

Haji said that he has enough evidence against Sonko and his accomplices.

The first time governor spent the weekend behind bars and is expected in court on Monday.

He is accused of embezzling Sh358 million from the county government of Nairobi alongside other government officials. The county boss has, however, maintained that his arrest and the impending arraignment was political.
