Renowned blogger and social media personality Robert Alai has reacted to a High Court ruling that has shielded ambassador-designate Mwende Mwinzi from being forced to renounce her American citizenship.
In its ruling, the court dismissed the contention that to become Kenya's ambassador in South Korea she cannot have dual citizenship.
Writing on Twitter on Thursday, Mr Alai said that while no one should be prevented from having the number of nationalities that they want, Kenya should be careful in giving individuals with multiple nationalities certain jobs.
He suggested that giving diplomatic jobs to individuals with multiple nationalities would throw up certain challenges, saying that doing so would be foolish.
"Anyone who wants to have 2 or 10 nationalities can have. Let's be careful in allowing people with multiple nationalities to hold certain positions. Imagine Kenya negotiating with US and the representative of Kenya has dual nationality. We must stop being foolish," Alai's tweet read.
Mwende Mwinzi scored a major victory in her battle with MPs who insist that she can't be Kenya's ambassador unless she renounces her American citizenship.
She has been hesitant to do so.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi had ordered a probe to determine whether she had renounced her citizenship as demanded by members of the committee that vetted her.
