Roadblocks will he erected along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on the census night to capture statistics of travelling Kenyans, the government has announced.

This is as the govenment attempts to ensure that no Kenyan is left out of the national exercise, which will in an unprecedented move be held at night.

Consequently, the special enumerators will stop all passing vehicles to take details of the persons on transit, with a similar tact set to be employed in Makueni and Emali towns.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed said that others will be erected at Salama and Mtito Andei towns, targeting truck drivers.

“There will be roadblocks so that even truck drivers who do transportation along the highway at night have their details captured together with other travellers,” he said.

He added that drinking joints will be expected to he closed on the night of August 24/25 for the exercise, with those who will defy the directive set to be arrested and charged.

About security along the highway, he said that police will be deployed to accompany the enumerators, especially in areas where there are conflicts between animals and human beings.

These are Kiboko, Kalembe Muuni, Makindu, Kiu, Raha and Kaunguni in Makindu Sub County.
