On January 17, 2020, a local daily had reported an alleged President Uhuru's plan to oust majority leaders and deputy majority leaders of the Senate and National Assembly in a bid to appoint 'President's men' who will propel his agendas such as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
This is after Ruto allies reportedly occupy the said positions and have been crippling President Uhuru's agendas.
The Star reported that the President's axe was mainly directed to Senator Kipchumba Murkomen of Elgeyo Marakwet who is associated with Ruto's camp.
It further reported that he could be replaced by the vocal Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi.
Murkomen has since reacted to these reports. He says he is uninformed of the plot but clarified that it was unconstitutional for Senator Moi to replace him yet his KANU party is not aligned to Jubilee.
"In the 2017 General Election, KANU was not part of Jubilee and did not form a registered coalition that was deposited at the Registrar of Political Parties," Murkomen stated.
Senator Moi is also unfit for the majority leader position in the Senate according to Senate Standing Orders No. 19 which states that a majority leader must be from a party with majority seats in the Senate.
