Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has termed the funding of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rallies by governors as illegal.
According to Gachagua, money from the public confers at the county government should be used appropriately.
"It is illegal for the governors to fund the #BBI rallies. The constitution says any money from the public coffers at the county govt must be appropriated..." Rigathi Gachagua asserted.
In an interview with NTV on Tuesday, the Mathira MP said that the public has the right to be heard because the money being used on BBI rallies is contributed by them.
"Kenyans have a right to be heard by the secretariat because it is funded by the public." He said
This came after Deputy President William Ruto cautioned politicians against the misuse of public funds on holding of BBI rallies.
While at Vihiga a week ago, Ruto maintained that he does not understand why rallies should be held across the country with the agenda being the BBI report.
"When the BBI report was released, leaders agreed to give enough copies to the people so they can read it by themselves and make [their own] decisions," DP Ruto stated.
