Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has defended himself against endless criticism after a video of him in a club in France surfaced online.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Sonko said that he made several trips across the world to learn better management practices as he seeks to leave behind a legacy.
He argued that he was following the footsteps of the US President Donald Trump who made a number of trips when he got in power. He noted that he represented Kenya at the United Nations in New York following an invitation from the body.
He also said that his trip bore fruits after he secured Sh500 million grant for HIV kits.
“I honoured an invitation by the United Nations (UN), General Assembly, to represent all Africa Cities at their meeting in New York. I have also been to London alongside other leaders of African Cities to attend a key Conference. Where after my presentation we successfully got a grant of 500,000,000/= for acquiring of HIV tests kits from Elton John foundation,” he said.
He added that he travelled outside the country because he believes it provides him with an ideal opportunity to learn new things. He also said that he had a chance to interact with other leaders from different parts of the world.
“I went on this official trip because I believe it is important for me as the Nairobi Governor to get out there and interact with other world city leaders and get to see or learn what they are doing differently in their respective cities for a change,” he opined.
Sonko also toured France, Italy, Denmark and South Korea.
