The fate of former Othaya Member of Parliament Mary Wambui still hangs in balance after the court revoked her appointment as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority board.
On Thursday, Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki filed an application seeking to rescue her appointment. Kihara was in court to respond to a case filed by Young Parliamentarians Association in which concerns were raised over her suitability to hold the position following the appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui has also protested the revocation of the appointment of Wambui into the position.
The three have now opted to file petitions at the court seeking orders from the court to allow her to assume the position. They said that the judgement made by Justice Onesmus Makau failed to meet the threshold required before the cancellation of the appointment made by the head of state.
“Take notice that the respondents herein being dissatisfied with the Judgment of the Honourable Justice Onesmus Makau on 17th January 2020, in Nairobi [sic] intends to appeal to the Court of Appeal of Kenya against the said whole decision,” reads part of the notice filed by the trio.
Wambui has affirmed that she is the right woman for the job. She has also trashed claims that she is too old for the job after youths raised concern over her age.
