Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchi has joined the team of politicians who have taken a stand against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force.
The MP who hails from the opposition's Ford Kenya Party has joined allies of Deputy President William Ruto in questioning the BBI report, which is expected out soon.
On Friday, he was among the group that accompanied the DP to Mumias East, where he said that he will only support constitutional amendments if they favour counties.
The lawmaker said that should the task force propose a referendum, then it must be about channelling more money to counties, failure to which he will oppose it.
“Counties have proved to be engines of development. We, therefore, need more attention in terms of funds allocated to devolved units," he said.
On his side, Sirisia MP John Waluke said that the store process can be traced to one person, who is power-hungry and is using the BBI issue to satisfy his political hunger.
“The man behind it has perpetual hunger to change the Constitution for selfish reasons. There was no serious public participation in BBI, as a result, it is a useless report,” he said.
Such talk is not new in the group, with the blame landing on ODM leader Raila Odinga, who has been accused of using the BBI to accommodate himself in government through a referendum.
Contrary to Kibunguchi's stand, Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula is among top politicians who have thrown their weight behind the BBI.
