Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday, NOREB Chairman and Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said the agency cannot supply the ordered medicine and other medical commodities.

According to the governors,  KEMSA order fill rate is approximately 65 % -70% with a lot of delays.

“As North Rift Economic Bloc governors there should be a way out to procure supplies not supplied by KEMSA and during emergencies,” Mandago stated.

“We want counties to be allowed to procure drugs from Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies  (MEDS) due to the better efficacy of the drugs procured by the entity,” Mandago added.

NOREB further stated that counties cannot pay the stipend of community health volunteers and now want the national government to take up the responsibility of paying them.

Mandago maintained that governors want devolved units to be allowed to choose the cadres of interns to be employed as per their needs to avoid disruption of service delivery.

They also want the Universal Health Care funds allocated to them directly and be allowed to plan as per their needs.

Governors John Krop Longangapuo (West Pokot), Stephen Sang (Nandi)  Stanley Kiptis (Baringo) and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok attended the function.
