Speaking to members of the press on Thursday, the outspoken legislator said that a plan to bring together leaders from the Luhya community was in the pipeline.

"We want to go where Wamalwa left us, the grand match to the state house. We want to resume the grand match to the statehouse, " the Lugari MP said according to a video shared on YouTube. (2:16-2:27)

The MP held the view that it was unacceptable that the Luhya community was not coming to an agreement to rally behind a single candidate from the community in spite of having the numbers.

He called on leaders from the Western region interested in vying for the presidency to agree on a single candidate.

The Luhya community has in successive elections supported candidates from other communities.

Veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has long enjoyed massive support from the Luhya community.

Musalia Mudavadi, who ran for the top seat in the 2013 presidential elections, came a distant third, losing the support of his backyard to Mr Odinga.

Lack of unity among its leaders has been cited as the reason why the community has yet to field a strong candidate in the presidential fray.
