One of the players expected to be in the middle of transfer speculations is Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama, who plies his trade with English side Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanyama was supposed to leave the team in August, but the plan to join Belgium’s Club Brugge or his former side Celtic in Scotland did not materialize.

By then, Spurs was being managed by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, but now the Spurs dugout is being occupied by former FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United tactician Jose Mourinho.

Over his long and successful career, Mourinho has always been touted as a defence-minded-coach. He is defined as a coach who likes players with energy and power – the likes of Victor Wanyama.

Since his appointment on November 20, the two-times-Champions League winner has led Spurs in four league matches against West Ham United, Bournemouth, Manchester United and Burnley, and one Champions League match against Olympiacos Piraeus.

The tragedy is that Wanyama – termed by many pundits as ‘typical Mourinho player’ has not featured for even a single minute. He has not even made it to the bench during the match days. This should worry our captain to death.

28-year-old Wanyama has a contract with Spurs until 2021, but with Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko being trusted to pull strings in Spurs midfield, he should pack his bags and leave in January.

A trip back to Celtic where he still enjoys massive support will do no harm to his football career.
