Reports by Standard paper claimed that Mr Odinga rebuked a number of officials in the Secretariat, arguing that many party members had their names expunged from the register.

“Raila was very unhappy with the turn of events because the party’s top leadership cannot be working so hard to have a free and fair process then some people in the secretariat sabotage it at the last minute,” the paper reported.

But in a long statement through spokesman Dennis Onyango, Mr Odinga has termed the reports as propaganda, adding that he never reprimanded anybody.

He insisted that the information was being peddled by parties that did not conduct any nominations in Kibra, adding that party supporters should ignore them.

"The ODM Leader appeals to party supporters to ignore reports appearing in the Standard today of his supposed displeasure at how nominations for Kibra Constituency by elections were conducted and instead focus on retaining the seat," the statement read.

"He appeals to ODM supporters to view reports by the Standard as part of the campaign of misinformation and propaganda, which will only intensify as competition formally kicks off, to create doubts, wars and divisions in the party over imaginary issues with a view to helping handpicked candidates for the Kibra seat."

The ODM leader however acknowledged that some supporters could not find their names in the register, but dismissed claims that the register was doctored.

He asked those who participated in primaries to remain loyal to the party ahead of November 7th by-election. ODM picked Imran Okoth as the candidate.

"Mr Odinga acknowledges that there were challenges in the nominations, with names missing from the voter register but those were not tailored or deliberately introduced to favour or disenfranchise any aspirant.

"He continues to appeal to all aspirants who participated in the primaries to remain faithful to the party and honour their commitment to work with the candidate to ensure ODM retains the seat," the statement concluded.

On Saturday, Mr Odinga hosted Nairobi campaign team at his Karen home. Imran will face Eliud Owalo, Ramadhan Khamisi, McDonald Mariga among others in the race to succeed Ken Okoth.
