Speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday morning, the Jubilee Party lawmaker stressed on the need for the country to do away with the debts, noting that the situation might soon get out of hand.

To finance the Chinese debt which is almost hitting the one trillion mark, Barasa proposed the surrender of the Kenya Railways Corporation to the Chinese government.

Through this, he said, the Chinese will be able to recover their money without Kenyans having to undergo the trouble of heavy taxation to finance the nation’s debt to the Asian country.

‘’Badala ya madeni ni heri tuwape Kenya Railways ili tumwondolee mkenya mzigo alio nao kwa sasa (it would be better to surrender the commission to salvage Kenyans from the current taxation burden),’’ he proposed.

This comes at a time when Kenyans are grappling with a heavy taxation menace, following the National Treasury’s recent mover to introduce an additional 16 percent Value Added Tax on petrol and its products.

The move has, however, since been reversed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has instead proposed a 50 percent cut on the increment and presented the proposal to the National Assembly for consideration.

The parliament is set to convene a special sitting on Tuesday to consider the President's proposal.
