Political analyst Dennis Anyonka now claims that the success so far of the Punguza Mizigo push has slightly shaken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga.
He says that this is the reason behind the former Prime Minister's vocal nature over the same, considering that Raila has more than twice mocked the Ekuru Aukot-led bid.
According to Anyonka, Raila's decision to address the same shows that he is to some extent worried about it, considering that he is also pushing for a separate referendum.
Speaking on Monday, he observed that otherwise, Raila would not have seen any need to speak on Aukot's issues, adding that Raila has realized that Punguza Mizigo might succeed.
"Haingekuwa na maana haungeona Raila akiambia wabunge wake waende kwao kuambia watu waiipitishe (You wouldn't be seeing Raila telling his MPs to go back home and tell people not to approve it if it wasn't important)," he said.
He made the remarks on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday morning.
Anyonka opined that the combination of the attractive proposals and the manner in which Aukot is pursuing the bill makes it very likely to pass at the County Assemblies level.
He also predicted that the changes, which include slashing the parliament by more than half, might sail through and end up in the constitution.
"Kuna uwezekano hii bill itapita (this billnis likely to pass)," he added.
In his proposals, Raila wants a return to the parliamentary governance system and an expanded executive in the national government.
