More than 100 youths on Monday took to the streets to protest against a contractor working on municipality projects in Kangundo.
The youths lamented that the contractor has failed to give them jobs.
They claimed that the contractor has been giving jobs to youths from other places yet residents in the area are unemployed.
"Our problem is jobs, the contractor working in Kangundo has refused to give us jobs. He has been telling us to come but we are sent away every time and asked to wait. It has been a month now," said Kyalo Muia, one of the youths.
"Yes and instead of giving us the jobs he has chosen to offer them to people from Matetani, Kawethei and other places. Only three people were picked from Kangundo Central," said Simon Muli.
The youth said that when the project began, they expected to get jobs and earn money but things have turn out differently.
The protests attracted the municipal manager Ann Masai who promised to address the issue.
She, however, noted that for the youths to get and maintain the jobs, they must follow the laid down rules.
"If you come to work drunk or let's say you come today and miss some days do you expect to continue with the work? As much as you want the jobs you should follow the rules," she said.
Kangundo town is among four towns set to get a face-lift following the implementation of World Bank projects in three municipalities namely Mavoko, Machakos and Tala-Kangundo.
