National soccer team, Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has revealed that he was pleased and honoured to serve as the team’s captain on Sunday during a 1-1 draw with Uganda in a friendly match played at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol forward wore Harambee Stars’ armband for the first time in his career on Sunday, while standing in for England based Victor Wanyama.
Wanyama who plays for Tottenham Hotspur was not available for the match.
“It was an honour to captain the Kenya national team (Harambee Stars) for the first time in my career. The boys gave a good account of themselves. The future is positive. Thank you for the support, we really appreciate,” said the former Gor Mahia player.
Emmanuel Okwi put Uganda in front, before Gor Mahia Captain Kenneth Muguna equalized for Stars in the second half.
Olunga was unlucky not to get on the score sheet as his efforts hit the woodwork twice.
Uganda clearly had the upper hand in the first half, but Harambee Stars players turned it around in the second half with waves of attacks against the neighbours.
The match was the first one in charge for Coach Francis Kimanzi since his recent appointment to Head the Stars bench, replacing Frenchman Sebastian Migne.
