Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale, who also doubles up as the leader of majority in the National Assembly, has rubbished those claiming those holding the view that the national census is not a political process.
Speaking on Saturday as the decennial exercise kicked off in earnest, the outspoken legislator contended that the national census world over has a political component.
'Census world over has a political component because political seats and political decisions will be made based on the numbers that are in every region, for example, resource allocation for county governments will be decided going forward next year on the population of every county," the Garissa Township MP said.
"You cannot tell us that, that politicians to keep off. This we are stakeholders. We have a principal stake because census decide on the allocation of resources to our people, " he added.
His intervention comes hardly days after Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i told politicians to keep off from the exercise.
Dr Matiang'i issued a stern warning to politicians keen on tampering with the head count, saying that legal action would be taken against them as he revealed that he had already received intelligence on questionable actions by politicians.
