Deputy President William Ruto has insisted that the Jubilee government is on course to deliver it's promise regarding constructing new stadia across the country.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Thursday at his Karen Home in Nairobi, Ruto admitted that the projects have stalled, but affirmed that the goal will be achieved before end of President Uhuru Kenyatta's term in office.
He dismissed claims that Jubilee made false promises to Kenyans, adding that the Jubilee administration has fulfilled most of its promises to the electorate.
“I think lie is a very heavy word. If you take our commitments, the commitments we made in Jubilee. We made a commitment about the railway. We made a commitment about roads. We made a commitment about electricity. We made a commitment about TVET we made many commitments including the Stadium.
"Assuming that you are right that not much has happened with the stadium, and we have delivered on eight out of ten of our commitments, have we failed? Have we lied? For your information we have delivered on our programs,” he said.
The DP noted that the 2017 presidential repeat election costed the government Sh15 billion, which he argued could have been used on pending projects.
“This particular one about the stadium, is the only project you have.. you have looked for anything else to bring in our commitment you have not found...In 2017 we didn’t anticipate a repeat election. We went into another repeat election we spent another Sh15 billion. This is public money. In some of the cases which are not complete we ran into trouble with contractors like Nyeri and many others. And when you ran into a problem with contractors, you go to court it takes two or three years,” he added.
