Tanzanian singer Diamond Platinumz has challenged the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) over what they have been taxing him.
The highly-rated singer was raising a complaint with the authority for allegedly taxing him heavily.
According to the singer, TRA is overtaxing him.
In a video shared on Instagram by Bongo Five on Monday, Diamond said the authority has been charging him heavily in his personally organized shows besides what he gives to the taxman at the end of each financial year.
“For instance, as Wasafi Limited, we fully comply to TRA requirements at the end of every financial year, and among our the business we do as Wasafi is organizing shows, that is, Wasafi Festival, are we supposed to pay at the end of the year and as well pay 18 per cent of our earnings from the shows we organize for ourselves? (Kwa mfano sisi kama Wasafi Limited kila mwisho wa mwaka tunalipa kodi zetu sawia kabisa. Na miongoni mwa shughuli nyingine tunazozifanya ni pamoja na kuandaa show za Wasafi Festival. Je, unatakiwa ulipe kodi ya mwisho wa mwaka au nilipe pale pale 18% ninapomaliza show ambayo tumeandaa sisi wenyewe.?)," Diamond posed.
TRA official replying to the singer's question said he is only supposed to be taxed at the end of each financial year, where 30 per cent of his net income is for the taxman.
The singer also claimed that at some parts of the country where he has been hosting his Wasafi Festival, TRA's laws were not fully applied while taxing him.
"I want to thank you for I have seen there is a difference with you, your system is fine. (Niwapongeze viongozi wa hapa kwa sababu nimeona kuna utafauti, inaonekana hapa kuna system iko imara)," he noted.
Diamond has been hosting shows in different parts of Africa. Last year, he was in Kenya where he performed in Mombasa and Nairobi.
