Speaking in Bungoma on Sunday, Oparanya said his constituents are also ready for the referendum, adding that they will unanimously vote to adopt the proposals.

"We want the referendum to come even tomorrow. You will see how the people will vote in favour of BBI in Kakamega. (Sisi tunataka referendum ije hata kesho. Kule Kakamega mutaona vile watapiga kura ya BBI)," he said.

On his part, Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi said Western Kenya legislators have opted to join hands to popularise the BBI push in the region, in a bid to make it a success in Luhya land.

"We have picked five MPs among us, each representing their county, so that its not just governors planning it alone. (Tumechagua wabunge sisi pia watano sisi pia, kila mmoja anawakilisha kaunti yake so that its not just governors wanatembea pekee yao wanapanga)," he added.

However, a section of Western Kenya leaders led by ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula, have decried isolation in planning the meeting.
