A parent's wish is to bring up a child who is mentally strong and one who can face the adversaries of life.
It takes so much to build this character in children but there exists a very thin line in moulding them and throwing them off the cart.
To bring up mentally strong children, parents should avoid the following things:
1. Allowing their children to avoid responsibility
Mentally strong children are given opportunities to learn different things by doing them without any parental follow up. This makes them more responsible and organised. It all starts with ensuring that the child can execute simple tasks such as house chores.
2. Expecting perfection
Even though all parents expect their children to do well, expecting perfection from the child might cause low self-esteem.
It is important to inform your child that failure does not mean defeat and we all learn through failure. This will motivate him/her to be the best they can be.
3. Confusing discipline and punishment
Mentally strong children have parents who are dedicated to instilling discipline on them rather than opting for punishment for mistakes done. This helps them to make better choices and strive to do well than before.
