Police in Nairobi over the weekend gunned down three suspects in a botched robbery attempt at Marurui area.
During the incident a police officer reportedly sustained major injuries following a fierce exchange of fire with the suspects.
According to the police, an AK 47 rifle was recovered from the scene of the incident.
The incident comes barely a week after two robbers were shot dead along Waiyaki Way as they tried to rob motorists.
Meanwhile, police have launched a nation wide search for 17 prisoners who escaped from a moving lorry while being ferried to court on Saturday.
Addressing the media, Thika Deputy OCPD Bernard Oyoo noted that the prisoners escaped after creating an opening in the front part of the lorry.
"They pushed part of the lorry, the body of the lorry from the front, then some jumped out of the lorry around 19 who escaped. But the officers did their best and they rearrested two.
"One had a gunshot on the arm, and the other one was injured on the knee," he said.
Oyoo said a manhunt by the police was ongoing, and called on members of the public who come across the criminals to volunteer information with the police so that they can be rearrested.
