Some few years back, there was only one known strip club in Thika Town located along Kwame Nkurumah Road.

But today, the number of strip clubs continue to increase by the day. For starters, a strip club is an adult entertainment joint where dancers mostly women perform half nude or completely nude.

So, why are strip clubs on the rise across the 'pineapple town?'

1. Demand

When there was only one strip club in the town, many revelers used to flock the joint as if it was a church, leaving no space unoccupied. Potential businesspeople realised this and they replicated the idea to satisfy the 'starved' market.

2. Loosening societal fabric

Unlike before when it was a taboo for a woman to expose anything above the knee, today nothing is private as long as it brings money, attention, fame, brews controversy to name but a few. Thika is no different when it comes to this aspect.

4. Unemployment

Just like other places in Kenya where unemployment is endemic, many young people around Thika find themselves engaged in no income generating activity. As a result, several jobless ladies are more than willing to strip in these pubs to earn that much-needed coin.

Investors in such pubs, therefore, have a readily available pool of strippers once the business gets running.

5. Glorification of nudity

In our society today, the nuder you are as a lady, the more civilized, fashionable and trendy you are seen to be. There is even a saying among economists that goes, 'the higher the skirt, the good the economy'.

With such a societal mindset, stripping naked to earn cash won't be seen as a big deal. Thika has not been left behind on this.
