Kenyans have been questioning why Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore was cremated in such a rush following his death.
It has now emerged that Collymore, who died after a long battle with cancer had requested to be cremated with immediate effect upon his death.
In an interview with Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange, Collymore said that he wanted his burial ceremony held fast so that people can continue with their lives.
He told the presenter that once they had confirmed that he was no more, there is no reason to waste time with his body.
"That’s the point when you think, you know, I might not come back,” he said, laughing it off. “Then you look at the options. You know I am one of the people who believe that when I die, I actually wanna be cremated pretty quickly,” he retorted.
Leaders from different parts of the World have sent their messages of condolence to the family of the deceased. Born in Guyana, Collymore was raised by his grandmother.
He relocated to the United Kingdom where he honed his skills in matters of technology. According to his predecessor Michael Joseph, who has been named interim CEO, Collymore proved that he was the best even before he took over the management.
He said that he had the qualities to transform the airline after he stepped down in his favor.
